She is unable to concentrate on work, on anything for that matter. That dream is still haunting her. In her mind, subconsciously at least, it seems that he is her happy place. Every time she has a day where the perfect ending is a bus flattening her, he is there. But this last time was completely unexpected. She looks over to where he’s sitting. If only she could walk over to him and tell him that she’s extremely fond of him. She shakes her head. He’d probably just laugh at her. She’d laugh at her. Maybe she should just send him a message. She clicks on his name… “Are you ignoring me?” She hesitates for a moment before sending it. The response is almost immediate. “No. Are you ignoring me?” “Yes. No. Maybe a little…” “What did I do?” “Nothing. Well, that’s not true. You… oh never mind.”
She looks up and he’s watching her. Quickly she gets up and goes to the ladies’. He follows her. “It’s now or never,” she thinks to herself as she turns around, push him into the bathroom and kiss him. They draw apart and stare wide-eyed at each other. “I’m sorry,” he says. “I’m not,” she says. “I know I can’t have you. I don’t even know if you’d ever want me, but I don’t regret doing that just now.” Silence. “You should go before someone finds you in here.” She turns around and closes the cubicle door behind her. She holds her breath until she hears him leave and then slides down to the floor.
Eventually she gets her thoughts together, splash water on her face and return to her desk. There’s a message flashing.
